There is no single biggest robot, because the record splits by what you count. In the guides we publish here we get this question most often after a trade-show video. Height, weight, payload, and whether the machine moves on its own each give a different winner.
Guinness World Records itself keeps the categories apart. It lists a largest mobile humanoid robot and a largest humanoid vehicle as separate titles, and they are held by different machines.
The distinction that matters most is autonomy. A machine a person sits inside and drives is a vehicle in a humanoid shape. A machine that decides its own movements is a robot in the sense the word usually means.
Almost every giant below is the first kind. Physics limits the scale of an autonomous machine long before its software does.

The Tallest Humanoid Robots Ever Built
The 18-metre Gundam in Yokohama holds the Guinness World Records title for largest mobile humanoid robot, awarded on 3 December 2020. It was built by the Gundam Global Challenge association and weighs a reported 25 tons.
Calling it mobile needs a footnote. The machine walked, knelt, and pointed while carried on a large support gantry, because a free-standing 25-ton biped would collapse under its own joints.
MONONOFU is the tallest machine a person rides inside, at 8.46 m tall, 4.27 m long, and 4 m wide. Built by Japanese firm Sakakibara Kikai, it holds the Guinness title for largest humanoid vehicle and fires sponge projectiles from an arm-mounted launcher.
Method-2 is the mech most people have seen a photograph of. Designboom reported the roughly 4 m, 1.5-ton bipedal machine built in South Korea by Hankook Mirae Technology with designer Vitaly Bulgarov. Its first public steps in December 2016 were taken with a support rig attached.
Furrion Prosthesis is the most genuinely mobile of the group. Designboom puts the exo-bionic racing mech at 4.6 m and about 3,600 kg, running on four legs at up to 20 mph. The pilot's own limb movements control it, with no autonomy involved.
The 4-Metre Humanoid Unveiled in Beijing
A near 4-metre humanoid appeared at the World Robot Conference in Beijing in August 2026. CGTN reported a 4-metre-tall humanoid combining digital hydraulic technology with electric motors, handling loads described from the kilogram scale to the thousand-tonne scale.
Reporting attributes the machine to NeodraDynamics, a Beijing company founded in 2024. Its company listing describes the core technology as a fusion of digital hydraulics and electric drive, and claims five times the lifting capacity of comparable all-electric robots. That listing is a directory entry rather than a first-party site, and NeodraDynamics publishes no English-language page we can point you at.
Those numbers have not been independently verified, and the thousand-tonne figure describes a system capability rather than a lift the machine performs while standing. Treat both as manufacturer claims until someone measures them.
The design choice behind it is checkable, and it explains the height. Hydraulics deliver far more force per kilogram of actuator than electric motors do, and that force-to-weight gap stops electric humanoids scaling past roughly two metres.
Why Robots Stop Getting Bigger
Doubling a robot's height multiplies its weight by about eight while its joint strength only grows by about four. That mismatch is the square-cube law, and it is the single reason giant humanoids are display pieces.
Actuator torque runs out before anything else does. A joint that holds a two-metre robot upright needs many times the torque to hold a four-metre one. The actuator that delivers that torque adds mass, which raises the torque needed again.
Power is the second wall. A large legged machine spends energy standing still, so battery mass grows with the machine, and battery mass is more weight for the same joints to carry.
Falling is the third limit. A two-metre robot that falls damages itself, and a ten-metre one that falls destroys itself and whatever is beneath it, which is why the Yokohama Gundam never left its gantry.
This is why the biggest working machines are not humanoid at all. Bagger 293 does more physical work than every piloted mech ever built, by putting its mass on rails and tracks instead of on two legs.
The Biggest Machines Doing Real Work
Bagger 293 is the heaviest land vehicle ever built, at 14,200 tonnes and 225 metres long. Manufactured by TAKRAF of Leipzig in 1995, the bucket-wheel excavator strips overburden at the Hambach open-pit coal mine with a crew of five.
It is a crewed machine rather than an autonomous one, which is why it sits in a different category from the humanoids above. Nobody builds a fully autonomous machine at that scale, because the consequence of a wrong decision is measured in buildings.
In factories, the size record belongs to arms rather than legs. The FANUC M-2000iA/2300 lifts 2.3 tonnes with a reach of 3,734 mm. That is enough to move a car body, thousands of times a day, under full automation.
The tallest machines are exhibits carried on gantries. The machines doing the heaviest real work are arms bolted to a floor and excavators running on rails.
What This Means If You Are Buying

Exhibition and entertainment buyers are the exception. A piloted mech is an attraction, priced like a bespoke vehicle, and the operators who own them run them as venues rather than as equipment.
One development would change that verdict. Take a hydraulic-electric hybrid humanoid above three metres, have it walk unsupported under a rated load, and repeat it on video. That would break the square-cube ceiling that has held since the first giant mechs.
The Beijing machine is the first serious claim in that direction, which is why it is worth tracking rather than dismissing. Watch for independent footage of it walking under load, because that is the test every giant humanoid before it has failed.
