The USV Size Classes and What Each Is For

How USV Autonomy Works

The industry term for the supervision model is human-on-the-loop. People ashore watch live telemetry and can take control at any point, which is different from human-in-the-loop, where a person approves each action. Weather is the first constraint. Sea State 4 appears in the Navy's MUSV requirement because it is the sea a medium vessel must keep working in. An uncrewed boat that breaks down 800 nautical miles out still has to be retrieved, and retrieving it takes a crewed ship. That erodes the saving which justified the mission in the first place.
